No fail weekend pancake recipe
Every single Sunday begins with pancakes… and ends with leftover pancakes from the morning. These are everything you want in a pancake. They’re soft and so fluffy… each mouthful melts in your mouth… you’ll be reaching for more than one. Stack. Possibly.
How To Make The Best Fluffy Pancakes
It all starts with the batter. Too thick and they will be gluggy and undercooked on the inside. Too runny, and the pancakes will spread out and won’t fluff up. I like to test the batter with my spoon or ladle, lifting it gently above the rim of the bowl. It has to be thick BUT able to run slowly and nicely off of the spoon. A couple of lumps is okay, but I do like to smooth out my batter as much as I can gently with a wire whisk.
How To Cook Perfect Pancakes
- Preheat your good quality, non stick pan or griddle on medium heat first. Once it’s hot, lower the heat down to low-medium heat. Wait about two minutes. This part is crucial and so worth it. Lightly grease the pan with a small amount of butter (yes, even on non stick pans), and wipe away any excess butter with a sheet of paper towel.
- Use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to pour your batter so you get perfect, evenly sized pancakes. Start pouring from the middle, then continue pouring slowly in a circular motion so that the batter spreads into perfect round shapes.
- Allow the pancakes to cook properly! Don’t rush them on high heat, or flip them too early. Let that under-side cook to a beautiful golden brown colour, and when bubbles start forming on top and around the surface (batter side), they are ready to flip.
- How to get that flip perfected without creating lopsided pancakes? Grab a good, plastic spatula and slide it underneath the pancake. Use your WRIST to gently flip them instead of using your whole arm. You’ll know what I mean when you’re in front of your pan ready to flip. THIS makes a HUGE difference.
……perfect pancakes. Almost like a good sponge cake!

Best Fluffy Pancakes
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose | plain flour, (290 g | 10 oz)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar or sweetener, (60g | 2 oz)
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups milk, (440ml)
- 1/4 cup butter, (60g | 2 oz)
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Combine together the flour, sugar (or sweetener), baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large-sized bowl. Make a well in the centre and add the milk, slightly cooled melted butter, vanilla and egg.
- Use a wire whisk to whisk the wet ingredients together first before slowly folding them into the dry ingredients. Mix together until smooth (there may be a couple of lumps but that's okay).(The batter will be thick and creamy in consistency. If you find the batter too thick -- doesn't pour off the ladle or out of the measuring cup smoothly -- fold a couple tablespoons of extra milk into the batter at a time until reaching desired consistency).
- Set the batter aside and allow to rest while heating up your pan or griddle.
- Heat a nonstick pan or griddle over low-medium heat and wipe over with a little butter to lightly grease pan. Pour ¼ cup of batter onto the pan and spread out gently into a round shape with the back of your ladle or measuring cup.
- When the underside is golden and bubbles begin to appear on the surface, flip with a spatula and cook until golden. Repeat with remaining batter.
- Serve with honey, maple syrup, fruit, ice cream or frozen yoghurt, or enjoy plain!

I made this recipe at camp and everyone loved them! The pancakes were light and fluffy, actually better than I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Thanks for sharing your recipe! 🙂
Miracle says
The kids & hubby approve!!! Since I started making these, my kids ask for pancakes everyday. I didnt have eggs one day, so I left it out & they were still delicious! While on vacation, I got the Krusteaz buttermilk mix for our family. Sad to say but I could not eat it. I went to the grocery store that afternoon & bought the ingredients I needed to make these. Once you try these, there’s no going back.
Nathalia says
I never left a review for a recipe, but this one deserves. Perfect consistency, worked well with blueberries and chocolate chips. I loved it!!!
Heather says
These are perfect pancakes! I put blueberries in them and they were delicious! My husband gorged himself on them. We were both so happy😊
Thank you!
Serenity says
I don’t normally leave comments, but had to on this one. These are the best I’ve ever had! Thank you!
CC24 says
Made these for 3 picky eaters. They all absolutely love them. Amazingly fluffy.
Natasha says
Ansolurely fantastic! My sons and husband definitely approve. Very easy to follow directions. Just requires patience which I don’t notmally have. 🙂
I will definitely save and reuse this recipe. Thanks
Jules says
One trick I learned as a short order cook is to flip them back a second time to crisp up the tops. This gives the pancake a little crust and stops it from getting too soggy, too quickly. Can’t wait to make these.
Ngọzi kalu says
I tried other recipes but there’s non like this, it came out wow, hubby and the kids loved it
Amelia Wallis says
These are indeed the best FLUFFY pancakes. For the first time in 5 years, my husband commented positively on my cooking. Whenever I make pancakes for our anniversary ( We met at a pancake diner, so it’s a bit symbolic) he yells at me and doesnt talk to me for a week! However, these pancakes did the job!! My husband said thank you and now mi must say thank YOU for this recipe that saved not only my marriage but also my sanity!
Paula says
😬 hope you’re okay x
Betsy says
Amelia, I was married to someone who behaved like that for 19 years. He passed away 5 years ago. Honey, that’s called abuse, plain and simple. You don’t deserve to live like that. I’m sure the pancakes are just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Someone who loves you doesn’t behave like that when you try to do something nice for them. Please, please get some counseling to help you recognize this for what it is. You have one life to live. Best of luck to you.
Helen says
I would of left him…

nena says
most heavenly fluffy pancakes ever – these are now my go to pancakes, and one of those recipes that I’m going to use for many years to come.
Hannah D says
Hi! I made these for my family the other day and they absolutely loved them! I want to make them again, but I have a gluten sensitivity. Is there a way to make this recipe gluten free?
Karina says
Hi Hannah! Unfortunately I haven’t tried them with gluten free flour. However, another reader had and let us know they still worked great! Same recipe and quantities, with a little extra milk. I hope that helps?
Lydia says
Such perfect, fluffy pancakes! I made the batter ahead of time and left it in the fridge, so it was a little thick when I brought it out again to make it, but I just added a bit more milk and was good to go. Seriously, this pancakes are AMAZING. So ridiculously fluffy and flavorful. Thanks so much!
Karlee says
Most of the time I don’t like homemade pancakes because they’re dense and never quite taste right, but these are AMAZING. You don’t even need syrup for these, they’re so good on their own.
Ruby says
I didn’t have baking soda and only used 2 tsp of baking powder and they still turned out great
Janaye Moseley says
Pancakes never tasted better going to 12 in the morning. These pulling they are really good.
Marla M. Lynn says
I’ve made pancakes from scratch and the box for 40 years and this is the best recipe by far! I was out of milk and only had Cashew milk. They were super yummy!!!
Dara b says
You told us to wipe excess butter off the skillet. I said phewww. Meh. More butter yum yum. Welp my first two came out like a 2nd graders drawing of the sun. So then I wiped that butter, used a spatula and flicked the wrist, just as you said. Now I can say, they look like pancakes. It pays to listen to the ones who know what they’re talking about. Thank you and never again will I take your words for granted.😚
Kendra says
Help! I used to make this all the time as directed and they were PERFECT. But the last three times they’ve been super runny and watery. For the life of me I cannot figure out why. I even had my hubs make them this last time in case I suddenly forgot how to read. None of my ingredients are expired, but I think probably my flour brand has changed? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions or can relate to this? I’m devastated because for years this was my go to recipe and it was always perfect.
Samof1969 says
Baking powder and soda go bad, so the recipes don’t have a ‘riser’ to make them fluffy. Hope that helps 🙂
Natasha says
Very tasty – got great reviews from the family!
Mariaelena Rivera says
By far the best and only recipe I swear by!! ❤️ I have been searching for years (YEARS) for the perfect homemade recipe and finally found it! I have been using this recipe for about 2yrs now. I should’ve commented sooner but I wanted to be sure this was the one. I love it because it’s almost fail proof (there’s a bit of technique that’s needed). It’s also so versatile! I have substituted every ingredient in this recipe or have omitted an ingredient (or 2) entirely and yet it still comes out prefect!
Katherine Fung says
These pancakes are out of this world!!!! I added purple sweet potato jam to make them Hawaiian style and they are the best I’ve ever had. Thanks so much!!!
Lorna says
This is the best pancake recipe! I’d tried (and failed) to make pancakes a number of times, to the point of writing them off entirely. I found this recipe online on a Sunday morning when we had nothing else in for breakfast, and dubiously made them. They were absolutely amazing and have become a staple of our weekends! Thank you for this great recipe 🙂
PS in case it’s helpful for anyone, second time I ran out of baking powder so subbed 1 teaspoon baking soda total (1 teaspoon baking powder = 1/4 teaspoon baking soda) + 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar total (1 teaspoon baking powder = 1/2 teaspoon vinegar). They turned out perfectly and we couldn’t taste the vinegar.
Andrea Cole says
I always add a smidgen of vinegar to my pancakes!! It really works with the baking soda to fluff them up!!
Nat Picone says
These pancakes are the best ever there very fluffy and delicious 😋 I highly recommend
Selena says
These pancakes are the best; have been my go to recipe for about 6 months now. 100% recommend. I ran out of vanilla like a month ago and started using 1 teaspoon of almond extract. Its just as good.
Liz says
THE recipe I’ve been looking for and hasn’t found! It was that baking soda that was always missing to get that perfectly fluffy yet crispy pancake. Will make this over and over again!
Christi Henderson says
Hands down the best pancake recipe I have tried. My Husband loved these, thank you!!
Audrey says
My pancakes came out amazing! I used Bob’s Red Mill GF 1 to1 flour and 1% milk. If I have Monkfruit sweetener on hand I prefer that also. If I have buttermilk on hand I will use that next time. Always make sure your baking soda and baking powder are fresh and not expired. Expired products will change the outcome. I made the batter the night before and it was easy to make pancakes for my grandson and husband the following morning.
Don’t buy pancake mix ever again!!!
Elisheva says
so easy and they are the best pancakes i ever tasted!!! i used canola oil instead of butter and it worked perfectly:)
Ciera says
Wow!! Super simple recipe and the pancakes turned out amazing! I was so impressed by the texture and taste. I don’t need to look any further for a homemade pancake recipe. Any thoughts on freezing them???
Terry says
First scratch pancake recipe I’ve tried in decades and it was delish!! Added the extra 2T milk as I like a bit thinner pancake. The flavor was melt in your mouth fabulous. Thank you for sharing!
roya says
literally THE BEST pancake recipe I’ve ever tried!! will never have to try another one so thank you karina! I swapped out half a cup of flour for chocolate protein powder and turned out amazing!
Lori says
I’ve been making pancakes for 35 years…and this is the BEST recipe I’ve found. We’ve made this the past 4 Sundays for our family. I did need to add extra milk right at the beginning, because it looked thick. And I let the batter “rest” for a few minutes to activate the baking powder and get those bubbles in the batter!
Does anyone have suggestions for adding blueberries?
Jessica T says
Best pancake recipe ever! Tried an All Recipe’s pancake recipe with thouasands of positive reviews last week and they were flat and no great. This recipe was perfect! I subbed out the milk for almond milk with a tiny bit of half and half and a spoonful of sour cream to get them extra fluffy. Truly the best at home pancakes I’ve ever made. I halved the recipe and loved the metric conversions. Will be saving it for the future.
mimi says
These are the fluffiest homemade pancakes. My kids loved them and want me to make these instead of the boxed ones.
Thanks!
Paige says
These are the yummiest pancakes EVER!!!! My girls and I are eating them up!!! Thank you for sharing! I used whole wheat flour and brown sugar because that’s all we had and it’s delicious. Recipe saved and will use again and again!
Lovelyn Smith says
Absolutely best recipe!! Saved it and going to treasure this forever! I do wonder if you can make premix out of the dry ingredients and add the liquid later? I’m guilty of rushing to do breakfast. Anyone with any experience/thoughts about this?
ayelen says
best recipe for fluffy pancakes ever, thanks
Parker says
My son told me I needed to leave a review for this pancake recipe. He ate 3 and said I hope you have more. Mom these are a keeper!!!
Tina says
Wow!! These are seriously the BEST pancakes ever!! I’m 55 years old…have 3 grown kids and have always made pancakes from scratch – just never liked the mixes at all, had used a recipe handed down to me from my mom – but they just never seemed to be “fluffy” enough for me – although they were delicious! But these? Light, fluffy, flavorful – literally yields the perfect pancake! I always made mine too big in the past which made them harder to flip – but your 1/4 cup size is just the right measurement! I did add a couple extra splashes of milk (as per your advice) as the batter was very thick and I had a hard time getting it to pour out of the cup – but they were STILL extremely light and fluffy – thank you so much for posting! After using the same recipe for 35 years I know have found a new favorite!
Chad says
I have tried lots of pancake recipes. This one is by far the best one I have done! The family and I were all huge fans. 100% will make again. Thank you for sharing!!

My search for the perfect pancake recipe has come to an end. These were fluffy and delicious; by far the best pancake recipe I have ever tried! Thank you so much!
Lea says
This is the best pancake recipe ever!
Nikki says
I am very picky when it comes to pancakes! This is my go to recipe! For my famines criticizing pallet I tried it two ways, with & without buttermilk. My family prefers buttermilk so I follow the directions exactly with exception to buttermilk. Because the buttermilk is so thick, I thin it out with milk. They still turn out amazingly fluffy!! When it comes to cooking, slow & steady is the way to go for sure! I cook them with butter & a 1/4 tsp of cooking oil. It comes out perfectly fluffy they a slightly crisp edge! Absolute perfection!! Thank you for this amazing recipe!!!
Abbey says
I used dairy free salted butter and unsweetened almond milk and these turned out so good!! I’ve never been good at making pancakes, I usually burn them or they don’t cook enough. This recipe is perfect and will be my go to!
SKL says
These are the best pancakes by far!
Hannah Isbell says
Wow! These were the fluffiest tastiest ever! I loved it with just butter, good to eat on it’s own without syrup. Like you said, like a sponge cake! Thank you! 🙂 : )

Delicious! My family and our friends loved this recipe! I did have to double the recipe for all of us but there were 10 of us. But even the little kids has 2-3 each.
Joy says
I just made these pancakes for my husband and myself and they were delish! Best pancake recipe I’ve encountered thus far, which my husband agrees with. I have favorited this recipe to come back to. We absolutely loved them!
Alexa says
Made these today for Father’s Day, and my husband looked at me, sighed happily, and said “you make the best pancakes.” Thank you! This recipe is great!
Meghan Milam says
I can’t believe how good these are. I grew up with pancake mix, and the difference is astounding. My husband’s favorite breakfast placed closed recently, so I made these to try to cheer him up. He also could not believe how amazing they were. So incredibly good. I like mine with seedless blackberry preserves.
Baby says
This recipe is a boom💣💥 I’m telling you. I thank you for it. I’m able to make the best mornings for my family with this best fluffy pancake recipe ever.
Sheree says
I’ve made pancakes using so many different online recipes and all tasted great. However, this recipe is a keeper! My new go-to pancake recipe every time we have a breakfast craving for fluffy, golden pancakes. Delightful!
Penny says
I made these for my mom, brother, dad and myself. They weren’t as fluffy as we expected, but all in all, the result (coming from my family) was delicious pancakes! My brother ate his while watching “New Girl”. These were great. Highly recommended!
Christine says
WOW! These are the BEST pancakes I’ve ever made, better than IHOP says my family.
Jessica says
I’ve been on a hunt for a good pancake recipe for ages! Ive always ended up with some stodgy middle pancakes, but this one is a keeper!!! Definitely keeping this recipe bookmarked for weekend breakfasts.
Rebel says
Wow I’m not normally a pancake fan but just made these for my daughter! I could be turned!
Nonto says
The best I’ve ever made, thank you!

These were fantastic! Agree 100% and so easy to boot!
Line says
My first time making American Pancakes. This was even better than the once I have eaten in Diners in the states. And so easy to make! Thank you. Best regards from Denmark, Scandinavia.
Jennifer says
True be told, I expected a troublesome battle trying to cook these. Most fluffy pancake recipes I’ve tried have a hard time getting cooked in the middle while the outsides are burning. I always disliked baking powder tasting pancakes but you barely even know it’s there! Honestly, I’ve never been a huge pancake fan, but now I am! I’ve written this down in my family’s recipe book, now who knows how long we’ll be making these.
Putting melted butter in it was a great idea, so flavorful….
Probably forever :3
Tracy says
Does this recipe need to be adjusted for high altitude?
bpetro says
We’re just west of Denver. We only needed to add a quarter cup more milk because it is so dry here. Other than that no changes and the pancakes came out great!
Almas says
The recipe was amazing .I made it for the first time and it turned out well. I was a bit confused. But thanks .Loved it.And can we add condensed milk. Please tell
Sophia says
Not condensed milk, too thick and sweet. I tried them today using evaporated milk as I was low on regular milk. Turned out beautifully. My son (who has eaten his share of pancakes!) said they were the best he’s ever had. Take that for what it’s worth coming from a 10-year old.
Jana says
I wouldn’t use condensed milk as it’s extremely sweet & thick. I did use evaporated milk when I made this recipe. It can be substitute for fresh milk in nearly everything. Ours were unbelievably delicious!
Jess says
If I want to make these gluten free, what would recommend as substitutes?
Shomari Jones says
I made pancakes using this recipe but substituted plain flour with breadfruit flour. You can also use sweet potato flour or cassava flour. They came out very fluffy, soft, light and very tasty.
DD says
This recipe is easy and delicious. My family love it.
Vee Bee says
Delicious! We added a little brown sugar and they came out soooooo great!
Jen Larkin says
I fancied some pancakes this morning and stumbled across this recipe. I’m so glad I did! These pancakes are easy to make, uses store cupboard essentials that you’ll have in and are delicious. Thank you.
Julie says
I made these this morning and my boys loved them! I have one question though, watching your video I noticed that after you flip them they puff up. Mine didn’t do that. Any idea why? Only thing I did differently is add blueberries and chocolate chips after I poured the batter on the pan (one child prefers chocolate chip pancakes and the other prefers blueberry pancakes 😁). Thanks.
Mischelle says
My best bet is that your baking powder has lost it power. If you have older baking powder, get fresh. It makes a difference. The fresher the better. I didn’t know that until after I was 40.
Stephanie says
Just want to say that you’re awesome. Thanks.
Nini says
Mine didn’t fluff like that either. It was still good but I also used almond milk so I don’t know if that made a difference. This recipe is still definitely a keeper!
Maria B says
Here is a recipe and instructions, that when followed, will not disappoint!
Delicious, light and fluffy. Look no further if this is the pancake result you are hoping for!
Karyn says
Funny how many new reviews there are. I made these today and they were incredible! I’ve managed to run out of vanilla extract for the first time in my life and had to use almond extract. My whole family thinks they taste like fresh French almond croissants. I also used almond milk.
Korey says
So good! I used Almond milk and added a little almond extract to add just a little bit of a nutty flavor.
Stephanie says
I’ve tried everything from boxed mixes to mixing my own, and this is THE best tasting pancake recipe I have ever used. It is also one of the simplest. I’ve made them twice in the past week and have found myself having to double the recipe because my two boys and husband devour them as soon as they come off the griddle. Thank you for sharing! This is the only recipe I will be using from now on.
Lore T says
When is 9pm and your husband asks for pancakes you know you found the one. This recipe is everything!! Thank you! Soo soo good!!

Wow this recipe makes a great pancake! I’ve been using the same recipe for years but decided to try another one today and they came out perfectly, golden, fluffy, and flavorful. It was also easy to follow, so glad I tried it.
Brenda says
We made this recipe this morning, and the pancakes were delicious! Barely used any syrup, they had a great flavor on their own. Only slight modification we made is using 1/4 cup less milk and added 1/2 cup ricotta cheese.
Colleen says
Just found your recipe and tried them this weekend – absolutely the best pancakes I have made!

I’ve made these pancakes twice now. My daughter cannot stop eating more and more. My wife, who usually does not eat pancakes, had two. Easy recipe and taste as good as any restaurant pancakes we have ordered!!
Lauren C says
Winner! Hubby requested pancakes like the ones we’d get from a diner when we first married. While it took lots of ingredients, this recipe was easy to put together and delicious! Saving it for our weekend pancake breakfasts!
kaitlyn says
Definitely saving this recipe – my partner and I agreed that these really are the *best* pancakes we’ve had. Honestly, I think they can compete with some restaurant pancakes. Super fluffy. I subbed almond milk for regular milk. Loved the addition of vanilla extract. Thank you! 🙂
Angie McClanahan says
I have tried possibly hundreds of recipes and I don’t like pancakes but my husband and daughter do. Out of frustration I found myself trying yet another recipe and BAM! Pancake Nirvana! All ingredients always in hand? Check. Easy to whip up? Check. A child could cook them? Check. THE MOST AMAZING BREAKFAST YOU’VE EVER HAD? CHECK!!! I can’t thank you enough for sharing this recipe. You’ve made this Momma’s life so much better with such a simple thing-a recipe. God bless you and may your food continue to make people happy. ❤️
Anna says
These were absolutely amazing! I usually don’t like the way pancakes come out, they’re rarely fluffy and they’re always too sweet but these were actually so soft and fluffy, felt like I was cutting through foam!
Very easy. We made them really big so we ended up with 8! 10/10 will make again and I recommend them to everyone. Thank you for this recipe!!
Carla says
Excellent
Julia says
I only have unsalted butter. Is that ok or should I add more salt?
Emily says
Can I make the batter ahead of time and store it in the fridge overnight?
Anna says
This is what I want to do. Have you tried it?
Jenn says
I have had a lot of time on my hands to make home-cooked food. The night before, I put all the dry ingredients in a ziplock bag and the next day I just mixed in the wet with the dry. I subbed oil for butter (ran out) and they still were nice. First time making pancakes and these were amazing! Perfect amount of sweetness as well. I think next time, I might add an extra 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Ended up with 13 nice size FLUFFY pancakes.
B says
I am the worst pancake maker ever. I tried this recipe being very skeptical of succeeding. Wow-these pancakes Do Not disappoint! Amazing & now even the worst pancake maker was successful at producing fluffy, delicious pancakes. This recipe true to its title & had no problems with using almond or coconut milk instead of milk.
Terry R says
The balance of ingredients seemed good to me and when the batter ended up tasting really yummy, I knew these would be good, but were better than imagined and now this being my new go to pancake recipe, finally! Thanks very much!
Heather says
I’ve been looking for a recipe that makes pancakes this thick and fluffy!! I have found it! I used Pea milk and left out the sugar. Sooo perfect! Thank you!
LENDA yoing says
They would have been good except your recipe called for 4 teaspoons of baking soda. It obviously was a type but my 8 year old followed it to the letter
Karina says
No. It’s 4 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.
Chioma Chinweze says
I almost made the mistake too! 😂
Kristel says
I didn’t expect the pancakes to be so thick and fluffy! Thank you so much for this lovely recipe, my family loved it!(-:
Sheila says
I’ve been making this recipe for over month almost every weekend. It’s absolutely amazing. I usually use almond milk because it’s what I have on hand and they taste great. My go to recipe for pancakes hands down. Thanks!
Jess says
I made these but halved the recipe as it was only for one person. I also used almond milk like others suggested worked well. Mine ended up like crepes though? The batter was quite thin and watery should I have added more flour? Or is the problem here do you think the halving of the recipe… either way they were still delicious!
J says
Flippin’ delicious!
Amanda says
These are hands down the best pancakes I have ever made! Super easy! Always perfect! I like mine topped with butter and kosher salt. Absolutely divine! Thank you for the fabulous recipe!!!
Hannah says
Whenever I order pancakes at a restaurant, these pancakes are what I’m hoping will get brought to my table! My ideal pancake. First time making from scratch. As some others have mentioned, I chose this recipe over a few others I found with reviews saying they turned out too salty or too runny. I did end up having to add a little extra milk for pouring consistency. I ended up making 9 pancakes, but I also didn’t measure 1/4 cup exactly for pouring, I just used a ladle. Each pancake was perfect! I topped with blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and Canadian maple syrup. My husband did the same but also tried one with peanut butter and fruit and he liked that a lot. Rave reviews from other family members. Will make this often!
Sandy T says
This was my first time making homemade, from-scratch pancakes. They turned out perfectly; fluffy, tender and golden brown! The recipe and instructions were very easy to follow. Be sure to also read the tips. Thanks!!

This was my first time making pancakes from scratch. I chose your recipe because every review was 5 stars. Other recipes had reviews saying they were too salty, so I trusted yours. And I’m glad I did! The pancakes turned out perfectly!! They were fluffy, tasted great, and yielded exactly 12 pancakes like expected. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!!

These were the BEST pancakes I have ever had! They were so easy to make, super fluffy, and made plenty to feed everyone. I was a little nervous because my batter was a little thinner than I’m used to for seeing pancake batters, but after letting it sit for a few minutes, it was the perfect consistency. Definitely a do-over again and again!
David says
Hmmmmm, I must have done something wrong, AGAIN. These didn’t turn out as well as I was hoping. I used 2% milk. The griddle coulda been too hot/not hot enough, mixing the wet ingredients didn’t look like it turned out all that great. Mixing everything together turned out really, really think. Must have added at least another half to full cup of milk. BUT, I do say and two of my kids’ say they were better than boxed pancakes. I’ll try again and change how I mix the wet ingredients.
Mina says
This really is the best pancake recipe. I veganized these and used chickpea flour. Came out fluffy and taste like a dream.
Kitti says
Hey! Can you please tell me how did you veganize it? 🙂 Thank you!
Lil says
she used chickpea flour instead. and I guess she meant vegetarian rather than vegan since vegan don’t eat eggs either eh.
Udatto says
Awesome recipe
Mina says
Kitti, Sorry for the late reply. I veganized it by replacing with chickpea flour, flax egg, avocado oil instead of butter. I hope this helps.
Kumar Prashant says
I learnt a new recipe — before this I used to think its really tough to make the perfect batter for fluffy pancake. Thanks to you I could make it in 20 minutes. My wife and daughter liked it a lot.
These were the best pancakes I ever had
Suda Raj says
Excellent recipe.. we all enjoyed as a family.. I’ve never written such a review but I’m bound to given how good the pancakes turned out.. I reduced the measure to half of the recipe (but kept 1 egg as it was) and it turned great!! Thank you so much..😍
LupitaL says
Best pancake recipe ever.
I made them ahead of time for breakfast, and he couldn’t wait. He had some for dinner ?. I also made some more mix and made waffles. So, I made two recipes with the same recipe?. Thank you. ❤️?
Faith says
So fluffy!!! These pancakes are so easy to make and come out so super fluffy.
Bianca Anderson says
Excellent recipe!
Joyce says
Best pancakes ever. I’m not a huge fan of pancakes but this recipe made me love them. They’re super fluffy and smell amazing, but I only added two tablespoons of sugar because I thought 1/4 cup would be too sweet with syrup.
Tania says
This is the 8th “best pancake” recipe ive tried and it is DEFINITELY the best recipe out there. It was fluffy and batter was slightly sweet so it didnt taste like plain flour batter. I even took pictures to share with my family when they stay with me. Thank you!
Patti says
I’ve been looking for a perfect homemade pancake recipe for years and I think this is it! I had to add a little more milk than called for but other than that, perfect, tasty, fluffy, sweet but not too sweet, and to beat all, the First was as good as the last! Thank you!
Kyrah Fossen says
I was wanting to add cocoa powder to make some chocolate pancakes, what would you recommend for the amount of cocoa powder to use? Thanks again loved the recipe. It was saved with my top favorites.
Jamie says
Best. Pancake. Recipe. Ever. I love pancakes like I gave birth to them and am always looking for a good recipe. This is IT!!! I added a little cinnamon and used half almond vanilla milk and half regular milk. Also added chocolate chips. I will forever use this recipe!!!! They are almost like little cakes. So GOOD!
Zena says
The perfect recipe, my whole family loved it! Thank you
Lynn says
Can I substitute the milk with heavy cream? I have a bit of a lactose issue and was wondering if using something other than milk would change the consistency of the batter?
Betty says
I actually used oat milk and it was just as perfect as the original recipe
nillyjohns48 says
Can I double this recipe?? Plzzz I need to know. 🙂
hummra says
yes you can just multiply your ingredients by 2
Holly Turkovich says
The first pancake was the best one. Perfect I can’t believe it. Love this recipe
Tatiyana Andrea Herring says
This is my first ever comment on any recipe and all I gotta say is, they were literally perfect. Bravo. Thank you.
Shellbeee says
Is there any way to pre make the mix and store it then just add certain ingredients to it later? We are tired of buying pancake mix, love your recipe, but for time purposes any way we can make this our new “mix”? That I can put in storage bag or Tupperware and then just use when needed?? If yes, what would we pre make and what ingredients would we have to add later – thank you so much for this!! And thank you for your help!!
Karina says
Hi Shellbeee. You can premix the dry ingredients and store the mixture in a glass jar with an air tight lid. All you would need to add later are the wet ingredients!
Shellbeee says
Yesss!! SO happy to hear this! lol about how long do you think it would be good for in storage? So I can write the expiration on the jar
Jana says
Don’t write the expiration. Write the date made. It should last quite a long time, but it’s impossible to predict how long without knowing variables like the expiration dates of the ingredients you’re using in your mix.
Dee Johnson says
Oh my gosh so delishes!!! Thank you for the best recipe ever.
Sasha says
Guys, I do NOT ever make accounts to leave reviews but hear me out. These are the yummiest, fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever made and I cook a lot of pancakes! Delicious!
April & Simon Riordan says
Same! We have been using the Joy of Cooking recipe and they are always flat and rubbery. This recipe solved problem for us – likely because of baking powder AND soda. This is our new go-to.
Kim says
These are the most perfect fluffy pancakes. Made for a big group and everyone commented how fluffy they were!
Kim Roach says
I love how light and fluffy these are! I don’t eat pancakes too often, but when I do these are the perfect treat 🙂 Thanks Karina!
I top mine off with syrup, fresh strawberries and bananas. Makes for a perfect Saturday morning.
libby says
I normally use the Allrecipes Old Fashioned Pancake recipe but decided to try this one and I think it’s definitely my new go-to. My boyfriend remarked on how fluffy they were! Don’t flatten them while they’re cooking.
Sara says
Let me start by saying that I haven’t attempted to make pancakes from scratch for probably a decade. I decided to give this daunting task a shot using this recipe, and my goodness. My pancakes turned out absolutely amazing! I was astonished by how beautiful they looked and even more so by the fact that I didn’t mess a single pancake up. The results were fluffy, sweet, and ever so yummy! My boyfriend declared them to be the very best pancakes he’s ever had and compared them to the likes of IHOP. They’re just as delicious the next day, cold or warm. I know I’m not the only person that enjoys their pancakes cold on occasion! I am definitely using this recipe again and again. Thank you!
Ashley says
I love a cold pancake! Haha
Allison says
I made these pancakes Christmas morning and they are truly the best fluffy pancakes! I will definitely make these again!
Gina W. says
This recipe definitely delivers! It’s absolutely perfect (& I did have to add that extra bit of milk just like it said you could for your consistency). I’ve tried over 5 from scratch recipes and always got flat or crepe-like pancakes or super dense pancakes. These were perfectly fluffy and not dense!! This recipe was loved by everyone in the family & perfect for Christmas breakfast ❤️
Monica says
Agree! Love this recipe.
Carolyn says
Made these for Christmas morning and they were perfect! Added blueberries to some for a change. You do not need to look any further for a wonderful pancakes recipe.
Kimberly Schulz says
I have tried 3 different recepes in 3 weeks and this is by far the best! Thank you for sharing, and the tips on heating the griddle and how to pour the batter also helped!
Rebecca says
Oh My Gosh…Seriously the Best pancake recipe ever. I kid you not, no need to look any further. You won’t be disappointed. My husband couldn’t stop saying how good it was, how fluffy, the best pancakes ever, better than IHOP.
Tip: get your milk and eggs to room temperature for fluffy pancakes and don’t flatten your pancakes out once flipped it over.
Jess says
I can’t wait to make these tomorrow!! My husband LOVES buttermilk-can I sub buttermilk for the milk??
Crystal says
This is by far the BEST fluffy pancake recipe I have ever followed. It’s worth keeping. Very simple and it actually tastes better than the café pancakes here. Thank you so much for sharing to us your recipe!!
Lisa says
Really the best fluffy pancake recipe! Thank you for sharing!!
Erica says
These are the best pancakes I have ever had. They are worth the extra time it takes to make them (in comparison to any type of mix). I love to bake and normally don’t experience any issues – except with pancakes. These gave me no issues, were tasty with and without add in. Brought me back to the pancakes of my childhood. Thank you!
Stacy Turner says
So glad I followed to the dot. They were delicious and fluffy! It did help to flatten the batter once poured onto the pan to get even and quicker cooking and they still fluff up nicely! My new pancake go to!! Don’t look anywhere else this is it.
Catherine says
I have to say that this is truly is the best recipe I have found so far for homemade panckes. I’m a huge pancake lover and everytime I go out for breakfast, I always order them. I have never found a recipe at home that meets my standards or that are as good as a box mix or restaurant style. These pancakes tasted great, cooked well, and had a nice light texture. They weren’t overly sweet and by themselves, subtle in flavor. I added a tiny bit of cinnamon for a hint of something extra. When I first made them, I allowed the batter to sit and rest. It became very chunky and thick. The pancakes tasted fine but didn’t spread across the pan nicely. Round 2, I stirred in more milk until the batter was more easily spreadable. These were even better since they cooked more evenly. I was initially skeptical that this recipe would be as good as the reviews boasted. But I have to say these really are wonderful and best recipe I’ve come across!
Chrissy says
I love pancakes, all pancakes. These though, were divine! The batter smelled almost like vanilla cake and the finished product was full of flavor and soft and fluffy (a bonus for my kid adjusting to braces lol). Maybe the perfect pancake? Well done and thank you!
Anna says
This recipe is worthy of saving
I make these weekly
Very good recipe!
Very moist and fluffy
I haven’t tried putting vanilla in them yet. When I first made them, I didn’t have it on hand. My family LOVED these so much I’m afraid to modify the recipe!!
excellent!!
Fran says
I read the reviews on this recipe and decided to make it for my family’s Christmas breakfast. We all loved the pancakes! They were so fluffy and delicious and very filling. This will be my go to recipe from now on. No more pancakes out of a box!
Jeanne Bostrom says
Loved them! Mine turned out dry but thats because I dont really know how to cook. But they are really good too with (obviously surup but also) butter cream frosting or cream cheese.
Kimberley says
reading all the reviews and this one made me laugh! I haven’t tried the recipe yet but I’m probably going to have the same issue haha
Ash says
Best pancakes I’ve ever eaten. We just had them for supper tonight and all of us loved them. I doubt I will ever need another recipe. They are super fluffy!

The pancakes were awesome! Hubby said these were the best he’s ever eaten (& we’ve had tons of pancakes at ihop and from various pancake mixes). This was my first try of making them from scratch and I loved it. Thank you Karina!
Laurie Bellino says
Tried this recipe based on the five star rating and it definitely is worth the five stars. Will definitely keep using this recipe. Thanks.
Jacquelyn R Eurice says
Wonderful recipe. Definitely a keeper!
Rebeckah says
I almost never leave comments, and rarely do I follow a recipe without noting the things I will need to change next time. No changes here. These really were the best pancakes I have ever made, and I am an experienced cook. I loved the extra vanilla, it really enhanced the flavor. My pancake loving husband agrees. Thank you from both of us.
S. Z. says
These came out perfect! Thank you for the detailed instructions and tips. My husband craves pancakes every so often and I’ve tried 5 other recipes and the results were always just okay. This recipe got a big “wow” out of him.
Benjamin says
I have been looking for a recipe for a long time. And I tried a lot of pancakes. Now yes, I found this perfect recipe, thanks!
Tracy Kendall says
Absolutely the best pancakes I ever made. I usually use box as I’m not a huge fan. I prefer my homemade crepes. But while family love them. I did too. I served them with pure Maple syrup heated and melted butter. Yum. I made larger ones and got about six. Which fine because I made breakfast for dinner and served these with home fried potatoe, marinated bacon, eggs over easy and sliced warmed deli ham.
Scott Johnson says
Fantastic recipe! This was great way to kick off veteran’s day for the boys and me. The cooking method works well on cast iron too. I used a little bacon grease on the cast iron and they ended up with a great, crispy crust. I may have added more vanilla than the recipe called for as I didn’t measure it, but the vanilla came through in the flavor. They were very nice and fluffy. Needed very little syrup. Thanks! I’ll be keeping this recipe handy!
Andrea J Riley says
You could try adding more vanilla, Cinnamon or different extracts for more flavor, As I do with all my pancakes, even from a box.
Eliza says
One day I just wanted to make pancakes from scratch and what came to my mind? Fluffy pancakes of course and you are right your fluffy pancakes are the best. YUM!

Sarah says
I made these pancakes this morning for my children and they LOVED it. My eldest said “this is the best pancake I have ever eaten!” We will be keeping this recipe as our go-to! Thank you!
Lisa says
Amazing pancakes!!! Made them yesterday with my 10 year old nephew! And it was a hit with him & my 7 year old niece. Strawberries, whipping cream and agave syrup made it all come together! Thanks for this fabulous recipe!
Larry says
Thanks for this repcipe. Today was the third time we’ve made these pancakes and each time they were delicious. I find that by meticulously following your directions down to the last detail pays off with amazing pancakes. I’m sure that we’ll be making them for a fourth time soon. Larry
Larry says
Wow.Now we’ve made these like 7 or 8 times. Always amazing. I have learned to be careful to not add too much milk as this recipe is unforgiving in that case. But only made that mistake once and other than that they have been light and fluffy, tasting great. Thanks for a truly lifetime recipe that I will pass on to my two sons.
Jana says
I thought my batter was a little too thin, initially. So, I just whisked in a tiny bit of flour until it was incorporated. I had to do it at least twice, maybe the times? Regardless, they still turned out to be the perfect pancakes.
Natosha says
I have always struggled with homemade pancakes….. until now!! This recipe turns out the fluffiest softest pancakes every time. I make pancakes almost every weekend now. Only thing I changed is I add a tbs of malt powder. THANK YOU!!
Anushri says

Best recipe ever. I’ve tried it with different milks and it always works out great. I have made a lot… A LOT of pancakes in my day and this is my go-to now. Thank you!
Nadine says
I can honestly say that before I tried this recipe I have never been able to make pancakes. I have tried a ton of recipes, mixes, and asked my mom and others for tips on what they use and how they do it. But mine always ended up being flat and just yuck. But I decided this weekend I was going to try to make pancakes again. And OMG these were the best pancakes I have ever had and definitely the best I have ever made. They came out exactly what this recipe is called, the Best Fluffy Pancakes!
I was so excited I kept telling my boyfriend to look at them, he thought I was nuts. Until he tried them and was like wow these are great pancakes. My son said they were so yummy (and he’s a picky eater).
I am beyond excited to finally find a pancake recipe that even I can make. Thank you!!!!!!

Ashley Payne says
Amazing! I woke up wanting to make breakfast and what came to my mind? Pancakes! Fluffy pancakes. I searched it up and found out you’re right, your fluffy pancakes are the best. YUM
Nicki says
I made this pancake recipe exactly as written, including following your tips for heating up the pan. But (isn’t there always a but?!), since I’m a household of only one (human), I halved the recipe & used 1 egg. I was really nervous that using a whole egg would ruin the recipe and & make the pancakes heavy & not fluffy. But it didn’t! The batter was a little thinner than what you described in your “Tips”, so I let it sit for about 10 minutes to thicken it up a little. The pancakes turned out perfect. OMG they were good! So light, fluffy and tasty. They tasted so good that I only used 1/2 the amount of maple syrup on my ‘cakes than I usually do. (I hope that makes up for all the butter I put in between each pancake.)
Great recipe. And I have enough batter leftover for tomorrow.
Karina says
Nicki, I’m thrilled that it turned out well, and you liked them so much!
Sandy Lee says
I have to make gluten free ones for myself but use this recipe as a guide. I use only 1 cup of flour and lower the amount of baking powder. I mix the wet ingredients in a bowl and gradually add in liquid until i get my desired thickness.
James Jamieson says
Used rich whole chocolate milk. Made Chocolate, Dark Chocolate Chip pan cakes……Grand Kids loved them think I could have left out the sugar were too sweet for the parents. But very very good.
Lien says
Best pancakes I ever tried.
Elissa says
The BEST!!! Soooo fluffy! I was afraid it was too thick and lumpy but they were perfect! (As they were cooking I figured out the lumps were actually just butter – yum yum yum!). Fluffiest best pancakes EVER! Thank you for the recipe! I’ll be making this one only, from here on out!
Puilai says
Wonderfully fluffy! ❤️

Suz says
Thank you! The recipe is amazingly good. I got a, “Mom, you’re such a good cook!” from it. It fed my family and my ego. Definitely a keeper.
V says
Just made these. These are the lightest fluffiest creamy is pancakes I’ve ever made they melt in your mouth and I used orange marmalade for a topping and I also used sour cream instead of milk mixed with a little water. Did come out a little thicker so I added a little more water. But these pancakes are the best because of the baking powder maybe? I’m saving this recipe from here on.
Gie says
Hi, this recipe looks great. Just want to ask how you can store the batter for later use? Thank you for the recipe! 🙂
Jennifer says
These are truly the best, fluffy, delicious pancakes!
I made them this morning and sent the plates out to the table. Moments later I heard a little voice saying, “Yum! Delicious pancakes!”. Then a little later a bigger voice said, “ Wow, these are the best pancakes you’ve ever made!”

After searching for a fluffy pancake recipe I have now found the perfect one. I just altered it a little to suit my vegan style. In place of the eggs I used 1 tbsp ground flax soaked in 3 tbsp water. I also added 1 tbsp apple cyder vinegar to the liquids. It was perfect!! Very fluffy!

Kate Siegel says
Omigawd! Thank you so much for introducing me to your perfect pancake. We met this morning and it was love at first bite. What a treat!
I love that you use butter not oil and milk not buttermilk. I think most families have all the ingredients on hand which is great. I followed recipe exactly. I know people like to make changes to recipes and comment on their “improvements” but pancake people, please go for it and follow recipe. My pancakes came out with the perfect amount of sweetness and so fluffy. Love your tip of cooking on lower heat and wiping the butter in pan. The combination of low heat and very little butter allows the pancakes to cook without the threat of browning butter. They were perfectly cooked inside and golden-brown on the outside.
You made our morning fun. Thank you for sharing 🙂

These are absolutely the BEST pancakes!!!
Kimberly Holland says
I’d give this 10 stars if I could!!!
I’ve made pancakes for years for my family in many variations from many recipes. This is by FAR the best one I’ve found. Best of all it’s easy to use as a base for nearly any flavor . I’ve used this recipe with grated apples and cinnamon for apple cinnamon pancakes. I’ve added cocoa powder and little more sugar for chocolate pancakes. I’ve used orange zest and cranberries.. mashed banana… I’ve added whipped egg whites and pumpkin for pumpkin soufflé pancakes. I’ve even added spiced peaches and crushed oats and the only thing I’ve ever had to do is compensate with a bit more or less liquid depending on what I added.
I keep a constant container of the mixed dry ingredients so I can whip up pancakes at a minutes notice.
Kerry says
I have been looking all over and have had several failed attempts at making fluffy from scratch pancakes. My search is over…these pancakes are perfect!

This is a great recipe! I made this with my kids (6 and 4). They are pancake connoisseurs. Thankfully the approve with delight! I added a sprinkle of cinnamon to the batter. The kids devoured them! This recipe makes quite of few, pancakes, so I’ll be freezing the extras.
Abi says
I am always searching for the best fluffy pancakes and I finally found them! You get huge bonus points for not having buttermilk. I was able to make these without planning ahead- I had everything in the house. They were perfectly slightly sweet, perfectly fluffy and soft. I even used half whole wheat flour and they were incredible and not dense. Have you ever adapted them into pumpkin pancakes? I would love to see a pumpkin recipe!
Kristen says
The best pancake recipe I’ve tried and will definitely be adding this to my recipe book.
Batter is nice and thick and eay to pour and spread. The pancakes turned out fluffy and soft. My husband and I ate these with cookies and cream ice cream and cinnamon maple cream syrup.
Sleepy Mommy says
Just made these. My husband and daughter are the Chef and Sous Chef of my household, but now I’ve been designated the Pancake Chef. Wonderful recipe.
Brian M says
Ok. So I just finished off a plate of these, and I must give my honest opinion. I followed the recipe exactly as written and I must say…these were fantastic! Honestly speaking though, they didn’t turn out quite as fluffy as I was expecting based on other comments. I believe that was my own fault by over mixing the batter, which is a no-no with any pancake batter. The flavor of this mix was wonderful! Better than any stoe bought mix or restaurant I have ever tasted! I’ll never buy box mix again! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
Lauren says
I followed this recipe to a T and they were amazing. They were fluffy and sweet and not dense at all! Definitely a weekly breakfast now!

Tried this a few days ago, just changed the butter with sunflower oil and the sugar with honey and the pancakes were the best looking ones I ever managed to do (too bad I cannot put the photo here, I have never been so proud of my pancakes). Thanks for the recipe

Fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever cooked!!!!! PERFECT RECIPE!!!!!!! I hope I can load a pic on here to show this magnificent pancake! It’s tasty but I added a lot more butter on top for flavor and of course maple syrup. I will be making these from scratch forevermore with this recipe! THANK YOU!!!!!!! (Oh, by the way, I used gluten free flour.)
Sasha says
Honestly these are the best pancakes ever! Made them two days in a row for my family because they were gone that fast and were that good!
Jasmina P. says
I like how it doesn’t have much sugar because the syrup you choose (maple, honey, etc) to top it with will make the pancakes taste so good!
These are officially the best pancakes I ever made. After I finished making the batter, I let them sit for a while (I think 10-20 minutes) because I had to wash dishes and just walk around the house (it’s 60 degrees in NYC but it’s so hot). I used the quarter cup measurement and I made like 18 pancakes! I ate four and put the rest in the freezer.
I can’t wait to give some to my daughter when she returns!
Thank you for this AMAZING recipe!
Ronnie R Schotzy says
My friend just returned from New York and brought me some just harvested Maple syrup. I couldn’t wait to have some! I don’t have pancakes that often so I didn’t have any pancake mix on hand. This recipe made great pancakes; light and fluffy. The only change I made was that I used Melipone Mexican vanilla instead of regular vanilla extract. You can find it on Amazon. Makes all the difference between good pancakes and great pancakes. The aroma is so wonderful I wanted to eat them out of the pan. I topped them with lots of butter and the fresh maple syrup. Delicious!
Brittany McGee says
I wish there was a place to leave a picture because I’ve just created the most fluffiest most wonderful pancakes in the entire world by following this recipe. Seriously, the fluff is unreal! Taste amazing!

Fantastic recipe, makes perfect pancakes- great batter, light and fluffy. We really enjoyed them! I rarely leave feedback on sites/blogs, but you certainly deserve the positive feedback. Look forward to reading and trying your other recipes.

Good recipe, thanks for sharing ❤️

Karina, these are truly amazing. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Europe.
Hannah says
By far the BEST pancake recipe I have EVER come by. Not only are they fluffy, but they get a nice crispy outside with a wonderful light vanilla flavor. I’ve added blueberries before and chocolate chips another time, still we’re phenomenal! My 3 year old loves them! This is my new go to recipe!!!
Shar says
Just had to leave a rating. I’ve tried lots of “best” pancake recipes but this is the only one that truly deserves that praise. Now my family asks for these particular pancakes and won’t eat any others, even at restaurants! Well done, great recipe. These were requested for breakfast by my 9year old this morning and they turned out perfectly. I had heavy cream but no milk and had to substitute. [Half cream + Half ice cold water = milk].
Karina says
YES! I love when kids approve! Thank you for sharing your feedback Shar!
Tangela says
Absolutely amazingly fluffy and delicious!! Just made these for breakfast and had bacon.. Omg!! This recipe was better than the basic pancake recipe from Martha Stewart. Sorry Martha.. I did use the extra milk, made the consistency perfect. The leftovers I’ll freeze for easy breakfast for my teen on school days..
Thank you!!
Karina says
I’m so happy to hear that, thank you Tangela!
Terry Wyman says
They also make great PB&J’S..?
Kone Reddy says
This was my first attempt at making pancakes and we are all enjoying them, thanks for the recipe.
Sasha says
After many attempts at making pancakes from scratch, this is the very first time my husband has liked them, as for my lil ones, they LOVED them. Thanks so much for the easy fluffly recipe! Will be making them again.
Karina says
That is so good to hear, I’m glad you and your family are loving them! Trust me, from scratch isn’t easy so it’s always good to adapt from a recipe as good as this one, happy holidays to you guys!
Jessica says
A-mazing!!! I have made many a pancake recipe and this is by far the yummiest. I had t enjoyed pancakes for a while and would just feed them to my kids. Not today!! Thank you
KAB says
I made them this morning. The comment from my daughter was “just look at this fluffiness and now…(chomp chomp) what yumminess!”
Karina says
Hahaha aw thats so GREAT! I’m so happy you tried them!

I have been searching for years for the perfect, easy pancake recipe. Some have called for more steps than my coffee energy can do at 7 AM. This recipe has the easiest clean up, perfect consistency, and is so easy! Such a well written blog post! Thank you for an awesome recipe that we enjoy weekly!
Cherisse says
These were yummy. I just made some and I’ll be making them again soon. Thanks for the amazing recipe.
Karina says
AW! Thank you so much! I am so glad that you had a great breakfast! XO
Julie says
These were perfect!!! Finally found a good pancake recipe. For those of you looking for dairy free, I used coconut oil for the butter and coconut milk in a carton for the milk. Came out perfectly
Jillian says
Hi Karina. Can’t wait to try this recipe, especially after reading all the rave reviews. One question: how do you measure the flour? Do you scoop it directly with the measuring cup, or spoon the flour into the cup and scrape off the excess? I’m used to measuring by weight, so I just want to make sure I don’t put too much/little flour. Thanks
Karina says
Yes, I scoop it into the measuring cup and use that to put in the recipe. Hope that helps! These are the best of the best! XO
Jillian says
Thanks. Made these as directed and they came out great. Perfect for peanut butter and jelly, too.
Alicia Wilson says
I absolutely love this recipe. I made it exactly the way it was written and it was fantastic….however I do like to use buttermilk in my pancakes so I started using that in place of my whole milk. I also add the baking soda directly to the buttermilk and allow that to sit. I melt the butter, add my vanilla then my one egg and beat it together before I add it to my buttermilk mixture. Its a very thick batter but thats what I like so I can spoon it onto the griddle and spread it out a bit. I’ve also discovered making the recipe this way and placing in a waffle griddle makes to die for waffles as well (my DD like waffles instead of pancakes). Such a wonderful recipe….thank you for sharing.
Destiny says
My family & I loved this recipe! It makes the house smell sooo good. The only thing I did differently was added a bit of vanilla extract, some cinnamon, a little nutmeg, & some water after I let the mix sit because I noticed the batter was a little TOO thick. Other than that, this recipe will be a go-to for me. 🙂
Amelia says
Can buttermilk be replaced instead of nilk?
Karina says
Yes, that will be good too! Let me know how it turns out! XO
Michael Moberly says
Great recipe. Family loves it. I did change one little thing on my end. I added 2tsp white vinegar and allowed to sit 10mins before adding to dry ingredients.
Lourdes Porter says
What does the vinegar do?
Kristen Morgan says
If you add vinegar to milk it turns it into a homemade buttermilk.
Kate Nowell says
So good!

Corey Maune says
This is the most amazing pancake recipe. Soft, fluffy, rich, and moist! Do not try making this if you are alone.
Christine M says
Best pancake recipe ever! Thank you for adding the vanilla – I always add vanilla to any pancake recipe I try, and it boggles my mind that many people don’t. Adds such great flavor. Thanks for sharing! I’m so happy I stumbled upon your site!
Melissa says
I know it’s incredibly unhealthy but cooking pancakes in bacon grease makes them extra awesome haha.
Juliana says
Hi Karina! Greetings from Brazil! Love everything you share. Quick question: I have a highly allergic son who absolutely loves pancakes. So because I live abroad, every time I go to the US I bring those eggfree pancake mix. Do you happen to know an easy go to eggfree pancake recipe?? Thanks a million!! Keep up the good work.
Tom says
We use flax meal as an egg substitute. For each “egg” substitute 1TB flax meal in 3 TB of water. Stir well letting sit at least 5 minutes. Bob’s Big Red Mill is the best Flax Meal and has this egg substitute recipe on the bag.
Nikki says
Hi Karina! This is my go to pancake recipe! After years of trying to find “the one”, yours showed up on my FB and WOW!!! I have to admit that I made one adjustment and added another step. Here in the South pancakes just aren’t pancakes without buttermilk so I use buttermilk instead of milk. I always think mine out a bit so I do use whole milk for that. The addition I use is, I add a half Tbsp of butter and a tap of veg oil. It gives the outside edges that wonderful light crisp! They are AMAZING!!! I always add blueberries for my husband and chocolate chips for my daughter. I’m old fashioned and eat mine plain. My family says they are far better than Cracker Barrel!! If you’re from the South, that’s quite the compliment! Thanks so much for for sharing this!!!!
Chef Stef says
Best pancake recipe ever. I’m not a big breakfast fan but I like to make breakfast every once and awhile. My wife usually makes the pancakes but they always come out weak and are not fluffy at all. The first two cakes would always come out burnt. With this recipe nothing burnt. Perfection from the start. Thank you for sharing.
Sherri Eder says
Best . Pancakes. Ever! Light, fluffy and tasty. Love them!!
Holly says
These were so awesome & fluffy!! I did 1/8C white granulated sugar & 1/8C light brown sugar and added several dashes of cinnamon to the dry mix. I wasn’t even thinking and added the milk to the melted butter, which promptly curdled/ froze/ I don’t know, but it didn’t look right. My last 1/4 C of butter 🙁 SO, I subbed 1/4C coconut oil instead and they turned out perfectly!! Will definitely make again!!
Lori Simmons says
I made this with Measure For Measure GF flour and it was amazing! You couldn’t tell they were Gluten free! Love this recipe for regular and gluten free pancakes?
Karina says
That is awesome to hear! I am so glad you couldn’t tell. I am so happy! Thank you for sharing!
Steve says
I am experienced but this is my first attempt at pancakes. I tried Martha Stewart. Paper thin. I read dozens and all the ingredients looked alike. I’m so glad I watched your video where the cake rose up like a ghost. I try a recipe the first time exactly as written. No tweaks. No buttermilk, no separating the egg whites, etc. I followed your advice on heating the pan. The batter didn’t look like the usual thin batter so it was hard to tell when to flip at fist. But no matter how long or short it cooked the pancake was perfectly golden and thick. I have a heavy high quality pan so maybe that helped. They flipped easily with no batter spatter and no raw batter in the finished cake. They look just like yours. Did I mention they taste AMAZING! It’s nice to trip over the keeper recipe on only the second try. I might try out malt powder or pecans but my search for a basic recipe is done.. I am curious to know if buttermilk will accelerate the baking soda action which is the one item less common in other recipes. Goes to show that treatment and proportions are just as important as ingredients.
Agatha says
I have tried out several recipes for pancakes but nothing has come out better than this. It’s awesome. Fluffy. Yummy. To the point.
Thank you

5 stars *****These were fantastic! I found the recipe after my store bought mix flopped because it was in my cabinet for too long…I thought breakfast was going to be a disaster but your recipe saved the day! I will never by a mix again! My kids even eat the left overs the next day without any syrup.
Anna says
Ive been trying to make proper fluffy pancakes for ages with no success. Tried loads of recipes and I’m thrilled to say this one finally delivered! I didn’t have large eggs so I used a duck egg. I think it added some nice richness. This will be my go to recipe from now on thanks!!

Dear people,
I divided the recipe in half. (Two people only.). I used soy milk and not real butter. Please tell me, are those the reasons why my pancakes turned out rubbery and flat? Please don’t laugh. I’m learning to make this pancake by hook or by crook.
Robert McKown says
Follow the recipe at least once before you try and tweak it

Karina says
YAY! I am so glad you all loved them! I am in love with these pancakes! I am happy to hear that it all worked out!
Tina says
These really are the best! Super fluffy and full, not flat. I was afraid of the amount of baking powder, but they have a great taste, can’t taste the baking powder at all. I think my batter was a little thick and we substituted non-dairy milk and oil, but they still turned out great. This recipe went into our recipe box, thanks!!

Finally, a great pancake recipe that lives up to the name! Have been disappointed in many homemade recipes I’ve tried. I followed the recipe as shown, but used eggnog in place of milk to use it up. Amazing!!
Karina says
Pam YUM! Eggnog sounds amazing!
Kandy McDonald says
Karina, after receiving this recipe in my EM, I had to try it. My husband and I have denied ourselves pancakes for a long time, thinking they weren’t worth the calories.
Well, your photos and simple list of ingredients made it so worthwhile. I even had some left over to freeze.
Thank you so much and mine looked just like yours! Melted in our mouths!
Karina says
Kandy that’s wonderful! I’m so happy to hear that’s wonderful! A good pancake recipes is essential to have ??

Your pancakes look terrific.Would the same recipe be ok to make piklets?
Karina says
Hi Dorothy! Yes, definitely!
Shan says
Hi,
These look delish! Some of us are off dairy. Any good substitute for butter?
Thanks!
Karina says
Hi Shan! I use cooking oil sometimes as a sub for butter. They come out with crispier edges but otherwise the same result!
Andrea J Riley says
Definitely a five star recipe. I doubled it for my family of 5. Three sons my fiancee and me.. It made the best pancakes I’ve ever tasted. I will use this recipe instead of buying pancake mix from now on!
Marie says
Hi Karina, I was wondering if these would freeze well? There are only the 2 of us and 12 pancakes are way too many.
Karina says
Hi Marie! Yes, of course! I sometimes halve the recipe and use 1 egg when cooking up smaller batches, if that helps?
Keri Coupar says
These are awesome! Be sure your baking powder is fresh or you won’t achieve the lift you’re looking for! Super yummy even with just butter! Definitely will make again!
Kelly says
I made this Thanksgiving morning and everyone loved them! By far the best pancake recipe I have made. This one is a keeper! Thank you!
Deedee says
Honestly eyeballed the entire recipe (except for the milk and flour) and it came out so fluffy. The batter was a bit thick so i added like 1/8th cup of water but these are the best pancakes I’ve ever made from scratch. Really fluffy like iHOP fluffy. Keeping it as a staple.
Lola says
I have been looking for a fluffy pancake recipe that doesn’t need buttermilk for a long time and I finally found it! Not flat or thin at all, light and fluffy. I prefer my pancakes without vanilla but that was the only change I made and they were delicious.
Sara Michaels says
We searched and experimented. The pancakes we came across were “eh”
THESE? Are extraordinary!!! They remind you of the PERFECT pancake that you think of whenever you compare other pancakes. We were searching for a recipe that reminded us of a local cafe with homemade pancakes. Lights, fluffy, sweet.
THIS IS THE RECIPE!

What is a serving? 1 pancake? I appreciate the nutritional information, but would like to know the serving size as I’m trying to calculate the points for WW. Thanks!
